- King of the Hill
- Rice plays a prominent role in "The Redneck on Rainey Street", a Season 8 episode of "King of the Hill." Connie (Lauren Tom) applies to a summer program at Rice University and doesn't get despite being brilliant and accomplished. Her father, Kahn (Toby Huss) is so disappointed that the family's striving led to naught that he becomes a redneck layabout: he stops paying the bills, buys an El Camino, and keeps questionable company. Connie uses her parents' decline from middle- to lower-class as leverage to get into a summer program at Stanford University instead. Hank Hill (Mike Judge) persuades Kahn to resume his old job for Connie's sake.
- Late Night with Conan O'Brien
- Conan O'Brien's show did not used to air until 2:40 a.m. in Houston, so he filmed two episodes in Houston and spent his time looking for people who might have been awake and watching the show. He found students at Wiess College at Rice University who were awake--but not watching his show. The clip can be found here.
